13/11/2017 Polytechnic lecturers begin strike

Academic activities in the nation’s polytechnics will be disrupted from Monday, November 13, 2017 as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) commence an indefinite strike to press government to meet their demands. The union accused the Ministry of Education of  failing to attend a conciliatory meeting called by the Ministry of Labour and Employment aimed at resolving their demands. It said the Ministry only sent a deputy director without a mandate to attend the meeting. National President of the union, Comrade Usman  Dutse said the union was declaring a total and indefinite strike, adding that the government was using endless verification exercises to delay the payment of entitlements of members of the union. He said while the union is not against government carrying out verification exercises, it should not endless and the exercise should not be used to denied workers their rights. JAMB SET TO BEGING SALES OF 2018 FORM

The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board (JAMB)has revealed that the 2018 JAMB UTME Registration Form will be available before the end of November. According to him, the board is planning to meet with all stakeholders on November 15 and the sale of the registration document will definitely commence before the end of this month. He advised candidates to check the JAMB syllabus and Brochure so that they can study the process and minimise the errors that usually occurs during the registration process. The JAMB boss added that not less than 617 centres have been accredited nationwide for the exercise. “We are still considering about 60 more centres as we have their applications waiting for consideration. “However, a total of 72 centres nationwide have earlier been delisted owing to their involvement in some infractions and they remain delisted.” On the board’s plan to construct mega CBT centres for its examinations, Mr. Oloyede said: “The mega centre plan is still on, we

Law Programme Accreditation Status For Universities

The Council of Legal education has released a list of accredited universities and approved faculties of Law in Nigeria. The list which was signed its Secretary and Director of Administration of the Council revealed that only University of Lagos (UNILAG) has full accreditation to offer Law among public and private universities in the country. Twenty seven others have Provisional Accreditation; five have Interim accreditation while 19 others have approval to only commence the programme. According to the Council, Suspended Accreditation means the faculty of Law has its accreditation suspended while those with Interim accreditation are still subject to further accreditation. The facilities of those given approval to commence still have to be subjected to further verification for Interim Accreditation status. The Council explained that the accreditation status and approved quotas of recognized faculties was published for the benefit and guidance of the public, parents and students.
