Child Sexual Abuse: Sex Education

An Educationist and Head Teacher, Claret International School, Abuja, Mis Olukayode Ige has advised parents to engage their children on sex education at home from early years. The expert said that sex education could commence from two years and must be age appropriate. She said that information for certain age group must be transferred appropriately as sexual abuse was becoming rampant and children from the age of two were becoming victims. JAMB plans for cheaters – Spokesman

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said in a statement on Sunday in Lagos that the board will watch recordings of proceedings in its Closed Circuit Camera Televisions (CCTVs) during the just-concluded Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). He futher stated that where there is any semblance of irregularities, the board will not hesitate to do the needful, that is, sanction the cheats. Malpractice: Over 10,000 candidates caught in Anambra, says JAMB ON MAY 20, 20179:21  The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) says more than 10,000 candidates caught for examination malpractices in the on-going UTME in Anambra have been handed over to appropriate authority. Mrs Lynda Nwachukwu, the Coordinator of the board in Anambra, disclosed this in Awka on Saturday. The computer-based testing (CBT) mode 2017 UTME, which started on May 13 in 642 centres nationwide, ended on May 20. Nwachukwu said that the examination, which took place in 28 centres in the state, was successful. “There was no disruption of the exercise in any of the examination centres,’’ she said. The coordinator said that the candidates adhered strictly to the requirements of the examination, adding that JAMB provided all the materials required for the examination. The head of Professor.Is-haq Oloyede at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos said that the board may introduce a new mode of registration in 2018 to checkmate fraudsters.  He also said any Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidate, defrauded by con men, deserved no sympathy. The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is’haqOloyede made it known on Monday 15/05/2017 in Abuja Federal Capital territory that no fewer than 440,000 candidates have sat for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations within two days across the country. He futher stated that the exams would end in Bauchi, Abia, Niger states and some other states on May 15 while the UTME would continue in Kebbi state, Lagos state, Oyo and some other states. He also said that some centres in Delta state were underutilised, adding that the Board would fully involved the centres in future exams. He called on candidates to avoid being exploited by unscrupulous persons in the name of getting exam questions for them. Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof. Is-haq Oloyede alleged yesterday that Some syndicate groups are selling past question papers of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for N200,000 to candidates. Oloyede warned candidates against falling victims to the fraudsters, who claim to have prepared answers to the examination questions being conductedby JAMB. He said some of the fraudulent persons simply take past question papers and redesign them by changing the date and then sell same togullible candidates, who might not have prepared well for the examination. According to him some candidates fell for the trick, paying huge sums of money to purchase the question papers only to bedisappointed on the examination day. “This morning, somebody sent me questions. They call itOrijoand he bought it for N200,000 and when I saw it, it was our questions in 1984 and he just put 2017 on it and started sellingit and people are buying it he said.

JAMB: LAUTECH students lock out UTME candidates

Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology ( LAUTECH), Ogbomoso have shut the gates of the institution against UTME candidates scheduled to write their examination on Monday morning. The gates were locked after students leaders held a congress by 5am and resolved that the school will be lockdown and no Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination will hold until their demands are met. The demands include, a comprehensive academic calendar, commencement of lectures and a permanent resolution of the crisis in the institution. Unless the demands are met, the student leaders said they will continue to protest and ensure a total lockdown of the institution. The student leaders said the aim of the lockdown is to get the attention of the federal government on the plight of the institution.

JAMB: Fraud alert candidates be on-guard

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, yesterday said it had arrested operators of cyber  cafés for defrauding candidates of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for N10,000 to access information on their e-mails. This cyber cafes operators hacked candidates e-mails and changed the passwords and the address of the mails of candidates such that any mail sent to candidates will get to them, then they will inturn sell the information to candidates. “We also appeal to candidates not to allow cheats to defraud them as we have arrested cyber cafe operators who changed candidates email addresses and passwords  and ensure that all messages send to candidates get to them and in turn sale such information like examination notification for N10,000. “It’s our humble expectation that a candidate aspiring to be a student in any tertiary institution should be able to operate an email. JAMB: How exam centers are been monitored

The Joint Admissions and MatriculationBoard (JAMB) Niger Coordinator, Mr Muhammed Ibrahim, told the News Men on Saturday in Minna that all the examination centres were linked to the CCTV (central Closed-Circuit Television) and JAMB  is monitoring the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) through the CCTV. “Our staff, candidates and supervisors in all examination centres are being watched and recorded; it is part of our efforts to reduce or eliminate malpractices in the conduct of the test,” he said. According to the Coordinator over 32, 000 candidates registered for the examination in Niger and were writing the test in 14 centres. He also mentioned that the exercise was smooth in many centres except at Jumai Aliyu Babangida Development Centre, Minna where a system failure was recorded. “The issue lingered a bit, so we immediately moved the candidates to the zonal office to write the examination,” he said. The Vice Chancellor (VC), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Prof. Adebiyi Daramola was yesterday suspension by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. There was spontaneous reaction yesterday on campus over his suspension, It was a moment of joy as FUTA campus was thrown into ecstasy with workers exchanging pleasantries on the development. JAMB 2017 CBT EXAM: day one update

JAMB 2017 candidates has commended JAMB organisers of the examination for their efforts put on ground in centres to ensure a hitch free examination. News reporters reports that a total of 642, centres would be used for the examination with at least two members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in each of the centres. A total of 1,200 men of the NSCDC had been deployed to all the centres to beef security. Miss Olajumoke Bello, one of the candidates who spoke to news men at the WAEC International Office Ikeja, said that the exercise was hitch free and less stressful. Varsity VC suspended over alleged fraud

The Federal Ministry of Education has suspended the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, over alleged criminal charges against him by the Economic for Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).Prof. Oyewole was arraigned last November 24 at a State high court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, by the EFCC over an alleged fraudulent handling of some of the university’s fund.But in a Letter dated May 5, 2017  titled: Suspension of the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and signed by Dr. Hussaini Adamu, Acting Permanent Secretary in the ministry on behalf of the  Hon. Number of candidates to seat for 2017 JAMB

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it registered a total of 1, 736, 571 candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which marked a deviation from the past. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this at the news briefing with newsmen on Tuesday in Bwari, in preparations for the conduct of this year’s UTME. Oloyede, who gave a breakdown detail of duly registered candidates for the UTME, said that the total figure marked a deviation from the past, in terms of registration. “In the last UTME conducted in 2016, a total of 1, 272, 284 candidates registered for the 2015. “The figure for the 2017 UTME shows an increase of 464, 287 applicants when compared with last year’s figure of 1, 272, 284,” Oloyede said. According to him, Imo state had the highest applications having 101, 868, this was followed by Osun, Oyo, and Ogun with 88, 655, 87, 811 and 81, 349, respectively among the top ten. List of states with the hightest number of 2017 JAMB candidates

Imo State has, for the second year running, topped the number of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) applications with 101,868 this year, the board’s registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, said yesterday. The registrar spoke at a briefing with reporters yesterday in Abuja ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) billed to start on Saturday in 642 computer-based test (CBT) centres across the country. According to Oloyede, other states that topped the list of applicants are Osun, and Oyo, following the applications of statistics by state of origin. Oloyede said Osun recorded the second highest with 88,653 applications. Oyo had 87,811 applications. The JAMB registrar said Benue (68, 916), Kogi (70,150) and Kano (70,276) recorded the lowest applications. He added that the agency registered 1.7 million candidates – an increase of 464,287 candidates from last year’s 1.2 million registered candidates. WAEC: launches interactive/communication platform for candidates

Mr Damianus Ojijeogu, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Head of Public Affairs on Thursday in Lagos issued a statement stating that the organization has launched a talk back platform, known as “WAECKonnect” to improve effective communication between the council and candidates. He said, the organization (WAEC) created this platform to reduce the communication gap between her and her candidates, which means with this platform WAEC candidates easily communicate with them(WAEC BOAED). In his statement he said “We are pleased to announce a new electronic information sharing and dissemination platform, called Candidates Interactive System or WAECkonnect.
