AKSU Direct Entry Admission Screening 2017/2018 Announced

  The management of Akwa Ibom State University has announced First ever Direct-Entry Admission Screening Exercise for 2017/2018 academic session. Direct Entry candidates who made Akwa Ibom State University their choice of institution and the general public are hereby notified that the Screening exercise for the 2017/2018 Direct Entry admission into first degree programmes of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) will hold on Monday 9th October, 2017 at the Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden - Mkpat Enin L.G.A from 9am.     REGISTRATION FOR THE SCREENING EXERCISE The University portal will be opened for registration from Monday, 25th September, 2017 and closed on Friday, 6th October, 2017 . UNIBEN Reschedules Post-UTME Screening Date 2017/2018

      This is to inform the general public that according to the information posted on the registration page, The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Admission Screening Exercise for 2017/2018 Academic Session; to be conducted by UNIBEN CONSULT NIGERIA LIMITED, is rescheduled to take place between 28th September 2017 and 10th October 2017 in designated centres within the Ugbowo Campus of the University. The Screening Exercise shall be conducted using the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.   All candidates are expected to be seated,latest one hour before the stipulated time for their screening exercise. Candidates should go back on-line on 25th September, 2017 to check for their specific Day, Venue and Time for the Screening NOTE that GSM phones and calculators are NOT allowed. Application closes Midnight 23rd September 2017.

ESUT Postpones Post-UTME Screening Date 2017/2018

  This is to inform all candidates seeking admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) that the screening exercise has been postponed. The screening which was supposed to hold on 25th to 29th September 2017 has been postponed.   Meanwhile, the registration for the screening continues till further notice. Candidates who scored 180 and above and chose ESUT as their first choice can apply. Also candidates who did not choose the school but scored up to the cut-off mark can also apply. Candidates are to check the school's website and this blog regularly for updates on the new screening schedule.

‘Illiteracy rate in Nigeria alarming’ what could be the factor

The Federal Government on Thursday described the illiteracy rate in the country as alarming. The Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, made the remark when he paid a courtesy call on Gov. Alhaji Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that the minister and the delegates were in the state for a two-day International Literacy Day conference organised by the National Commission for Mass Education. Adamu said the country had about 65 million to 75 million illiterates, describing the figure as unbecoming and high, considering the country’s population. “Education is the bedrock of any country’s development and any country that does not educate its populace is bound to fail. “Unfortunately, in Nigeria we have a very large population of illiterates; the illiterates figure, considering our population, is unbecoming,’’ he said. JAMB REGISTRAR UTME score no guarantee for admission

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says that only a combination of JAMB cut-off marks, post-UTME, O’ level results and other admission criteria as determined by institutions can ensure candidates’ admission. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, disclosed this at an intensive Training and Sensitisation Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for the 2017/2018 academic session on Thursday in Abuja. Oloyede said that scoring higher than the minimum cut-off marks did not guarantee admission but made candidates eligible for admission consideration. He added that institutions determined the institutional, programme and course cut-off marks and other admission criteria in exercise of their autonomy. According to him, the cut-off mark by JAMB is only a threshold below which no institution can admit candidates. “JAMB is not an examination body rather it is a ranking body. NECO records 70 per cent pass

THE National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the result of its 2017 June/July Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with 745,053 candidates – about 70.85 per cent – making five credits and above in English Language and Mathematics. Announcing the release of the results yesterday in Minna, its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, said 1,051,472 candidates sat for the examination. He said 903,690 candidates made credit and above in English Language, 849,335 got credit and above in General Mathematics), 561,437 in Economics and 599,093 (Biology). Uwakwe added that the result showed 1.11 per cent improvement in candidates’ performance compared with 2016 results. Ekiti State, he said, emerged top in students’ performance with 85 per cent scoring five credits and above, including Mathematics and English. NECO SSCE Result 2017 Released check your result

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2017 senior school certificate examination (SSCE) it conducted throughout the country and some overseas countries between June and July. The results showed that 745,053 candidates that sat for the examination recorded credit and above passes in English and Mathematics, while 947,850 candidates passed with credits and above in five subjects irrespective of English and Mathematics. According to the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Charles Uwakwe, who announced the results, over 1,055,988 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,051472 actually sat for the test which covered a total of 76 subjects. The registrar disclosed that 50,586 candidates were involved in examination malpractices, adding that 276 schools were involved in “mass cheating” in 34 states. As a result, Uwakwe said six schools had been “derecognised” for their institution being involved in examination malpractices

UNILAG postpones Post-UTME test see new date

The University of Lagos (UNILAG)  has postponed its 2017/2018 Post-UTME Aptitude test previously scheduled for Monday 18 th to Friday 22, September. A new date according to an announcement by the institution on Tuesday will be on the University website. Candidates are to visit www.unilag.edu.ng for information on the new date. The postponement does not affect the on-going application for the Post-UTME screening which will close on Friday, September 15 as scheduled.

FUNAAB’s SSANU, NASU, others join strike

Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, was deserted on Monday as members of the Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU), Non – Academic Staff of Universities (NASU) and National Association of Technologists (NAAT) of the embarked upon industrial action in compliance with directives from their respective national bodies. The SSANU chairman, Rotimi Fasunwon, said they began the indefinite strike as directed by national leadership to compel the federal government to implement the 2009 agreement with the union, adequately fund the nation’s universities and fractionalization of salaries among others. Also, his NASU counterpart, Com. Isiaq Odunjo, said part of the reason for the strike is non registration of university pension scheme, bad governance and corruption in the university system. Strike: SSANU, NAAT, NASU to meet FG

The non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities on Monday said they would meet to decide on a date to meet with Federal Government over the indefinite strike embarked by the unions. It will be recalled that the non-teaching staff of universities under the auspices of Joint Action Committee (JAC) had threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, September 11 over non-implementation of the 2009 agreement. Mr Samson Ugwoke, the President of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) made this known in a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja. “We have commenced the strike today; the strike is total, comprehensive and indefinite. “We only just got a letter from the Ministry of Labour and Employment inviting us for a meeting today. “But, it is not something I alone can decide but the JAC as it involves other unions, we have to come together and take that decision on when to meet with the Federal Government, ‘’he said.
